Ryan Nehring is a postdoctoral research associate in the History and Philosophy of Science Department. His research at Cambridge is part of the Collection to Cultivation project, under PI Helen Anne Curry. As part of the project, Ryan is carrying-out two lines of research. The first analyzes how national politics shape the international governance of plant genetic resource exchanges. His second research line looks at the relationship between scientific research and small farmers in a participatory in situ seed bank in Brazil. Ryan’s work prior to Cambridge involved a multi-year ethnographic study on the politics of public agricultural research in Brazil and several consultancies with the FAO, UNDP and WFP. He holds a PhD in Development Sociology from Cornell University.
