Cambridge Global Food Security

An Interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Cambridge

Around 40% of all edible fruit and veg intended for human consumption is wasted in the UK because supermarkets reject it for being ugly. But what’s wrong with a crooked carrot or a nobbly parsnip if you’re going to chop it up and cook it?

Wonkyveg

With pressure on our agricultural land to provide for a growing population, and all of us being told to eat at least five a day, throwing away perfectly edible food seems madness. A team of experts including a local farmer, a large supplier and a Cambridge plant scientist debate the issues.

This public event is part of the Cambridge Science Festival 2017. Come prepared for a lively evening!
