Cambridge Global Food Security

An Interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Cambridge

Call for UK early career researchers to attend this workshop in Brazil. Apply by 31 May. An outstanding opportunity - all travel, accommodation and meal expenses will be covered.

Fungi spoil foods, devastate crops, and food contamination by fungi poses a serious human health-risk, especially in vulnerable populations.  Workshop participants should have research interests relevant to the topic of fungal threat to food security and its impacts. We encourage an inter-disciplinary mix. In addition to fungal biologists and food scientists, we invite applications from those with skills in mathematical modelling (e.g., fungal growth in foods, climate change and socio-economic impacts on food security), chemistry or formulation science (e.g., informing fungal-control measures), food regulations standards or food engineering. We will also welcome applicants with appreciation of socio-economic development or technology transfer complemented by at least one of the above subject-specific skills.

The workshop will provide a unique opportunity for sharing research expertise and networking. During the workshops early career researchers will have the opportunity to present their research in the form of a short oral presentation and discuss this with established researchers from the UK and partner countries. There will be a focus on building up links for future collaborations and participants selected on the basis of their research potential and ability to build longer term links.
