Cambridge Global Food Security
My research based at the MARS Center for Cocoa Science in Brazil, is funded by MARS and it is a collaboration with the CIRAD (French Agriculture Research for Development).
I have a strong interest in the study of cocoa sustainability, yield, biodiversity conservation and climate change. I am currently investigating the effects of 2015-16 El Nino drought on cocoa production in the state of Bahia. I also study the environmental value of shade tree and the factors limiting yield in traditional Brazilian cocoa agroforests. A better understanding of cocoa agroforest dynamics and climate threat in farm conditions, will help to support cocoa farmers to cope with climate change and to increase yield.
