OpenPlant Synthetic Biology Research Centre is a £12M collaboration between scientists at University of Cambridge and John Innes Centre in Norwich.

The OpenPlant initiative aims to promote interdisciplinary exchange between the foundational technologies and more applied plant sciences; open technologies for innovation and innovation for sustainable agriculture and conservation.

Three newly established multidisciplinary research centres in synthetic biology, including one based in Cambridge, are funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
