Cambridge Global Food Security

An Interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Cambridge

Pulses are an important area of research for global food security, so we were especially pleased to see GFS member Dr Nadia Mohd-Radzman’s work on broad beans featured in the national news this week.

The article about her work in the Observer newspaper focused on the health benefits of eating broad beans.  These legumes are a rich source of protein, fibre and iron. They also contain chemicals which may help alleviate symptoms of psychological and neurological conditions including depression and Parkinson’s Disease.

Dr Mohd-Radzman a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge Sainsbury Lab, was a participant at our recent workshop on pulses, part of our support for initiatives that foster research into sustainable alternative proteins.

You can read an interview with Dr Mohd-Radzman from our archive here.
