Cambridge Global Food Security

An Interdisciplinary Research Centre at the University of Cambridge

Professor Tony Heron discusses how Brexit and the UK's unique political position effects policy surrounding the future of food security.

Becoming an independent trading nation for the first time in over 40 years offers a major opportunity to reform the UK’s food systems in light of new national priorities, but it brings with it a new set of challenges.

This workshop aims to introduce and discuss the short- and long-term challenges to food security in the UK, with a focus on its departure from the EU and its COP26 commitments. The workshop will focus on the complex political and economic circumstances that the government will have to navigate to provide safe, healthy, affordable and sustainable food systems for both consumers and producers.
